Meet the new Story Studio

Today we are launching the Story Studio, and I am so excited to tell you about it.

Heirloom & Bound began with a simple wish. I wanted the family stories I grew up hearing to be written down in a way my son could understand and enjoy. The books are the heart of everything we do. But I have come to believe that the experience of creating one matters almost as much as the finished book. Telling a family story takes some thought, and it should feel easy, warm, and unhurried.

That is why we built the Story Studio: everything you need to create, edit, and preview your book, all in one place.

What I heard from you

Over the past couple of months, I have spoken with so many of you about what is working and how we can make creating your book even better. I loved every one of those conversations, and they shaped nearly every decision behind this launch.

One thing I heard is that you wanted to see your final characters before illustration begins. The Character Builder goes even further. You can build each person just how you like, and change them as many times as you need, until every character looks like the person you know and love.

I also heard that small details often come to mind once you start seeing the illustrations. That makes complete sense to me. It is hard to know everything you want to say about the people you love most until you see them on the page. So the Story Studio gives you a real chance to refine your book: you can request edits to the illustrations on up to three pages, and request text edits on any page you need.

I also wanted the whole process to feel simple. Now there is one link in your email that brings you to the Story Studio, and each time you return, a tracker shows you where your book is and what your next step is.

What is inside the Story Studio

The Guided Interview. Share your family's memories at your own pace. Your answers save as you go, you can come back whenever you like, and you can edit your answers later.

The Character Builder. Choose the features, coloring, and accessories for each person in your story, so you can see them before we illustrate them. Pets are included too, with many breeds, colors, and markings to choose from.

Family photos. You can now add up to four of your real family photos to the last page of your book, and arrange and crop them just the way you like.

The Manuscript Editor. Read your story in a full spread layout, with more specific illustration summaries that help you add details and catch changes before illustration begins. You can even see the outfit each character will wear, scene by scene, and change it yourself.

The Revision Process. Preview your finished, illustrated book right in the Story Studio and request your edits page by page.

The people and technology behind your book

We do not use reusable templates or canned illustrations. Every book is built from your story, with technology we built ourselves and a person on our team who reviews your book before it reaches you.
